College And Campus Safety

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Going off to College or University is a very exciting time in an adolescent’s life. A brand new set of experiences are just ahead and the thought of independence and separation from parental rules is appealing to any teen. College life teaches important lessons about life which may turn out more important than those they learn in the classrooms. College dorm living can also be a learning experience; however it can be a dangerous one, especially for young women. Women need to be aware that their college checklist includes the knowledge and awareness of campus living and the potential threats associated with it.

In today’s society the truth of violence and unspeakable situations in college atmospheres are becoming a more prevalent and common acceptance in life. On a daily bases you hear of rapes, kidnappings, violent assaults, and in the worst cases violent murders in our schools of higher education. Don’t be an accepting victim to the horrendous crimes and situations that are falling upon us as an American society. Be one of the people that not only prepared themselves but also prepared their children not only to survive an encounter but win and encounter and live to be what they are destined to be.

There are few simple steps to prepare your children for the possible situations they may encounter. One is prepare and talk with your children and have a plan for them to make their odds the best to win an encounter. Second give them the tools that increase their odds and abilities to win an encounter. Simple items like pepper spray, personal alarms, and tasers are all great items to give your children that ability to win that one bad encounter that may change their lives forever.

Some simple practices every student should consider include, utilize well lit, well travelled areas when walking to and from destinations on campus. Walk with friends, especially at night. Finally, invest in you safety by adding a non-lethal personal defense weapon to you daily tools. Taser Products, Stun Guns, and pepper spray are just a few effective quality protective products with a history of successful uses on assailants.

A personal safety alarm should be one of the most important accessories for any college student. Today’s alarms are loud, extremely small, and designed to draw attention to any threatening situation, making them an effective personal defense tool.

Pepper spray products are a cost effective tool when used properly. Keep in mind that some states have some restrictions on pepper spray so be sure to check with your local law enforcement before you carry pepper spray. When buying pepper spray, look for the OC rating. They range from 10 percent to 18 percent OC.

Although having personal defense weapons available and ready to use does not prevent a situation from happening, education and awareness to potential threat indicators can decrease the chance of it happening. Together with the proper training in the use of non-lethal personal defense weapons and the willingness to use them will increase the chance of survival when faced with a credible threat to your safety. Remember the individual is responsible for that first line of defense in protecting personal safety and well being.

Seatbelts Are A Necessary Component In Every Car For Safe Driving

Friday, June 4th, 2010

One of the greatest invention’s man has come up with is the seat belt. Seat belts are responsible for saving the lives and preventing injuries of many people during a crash. Laws mandate that drivers must wear their seatbelts at all times. Some states have even taken it further, requiring front seat passengers and children to also wear seat belts.

What makes these laws necessary? Why are seat belts so important and how do they work? Let’s discuss some of these questions.

Seatbelts are designed to restrain wearers in the event of a collision. In a vehicle accident, the motion of the vehicle is stopped abruptly and it is usually faster than the body can adjust. This means your body continues to move forward even after the vehicle has stopped.

If you are wearing a seat belt your body will be held back. If you are not, your body will continue to move forward and impact with whatever is in front of you, whether it is a steering wheel or windshield.

Being ejected from a vehicle in a crash is truly scary and can be fatal if you’re not wearing your seat belt. If you are unrestrained during an ejection, your body will travel further than if you were wearing one.

Do your best to keep this from happening to you. Wear your seat belt whenever you drive and make sure your passengers do, as well. It may save them from injuries or even death.

Seat belts will save your life by preventing you from impacting with your vehicle’s doors, steering wheel, windows or windshield. It’s a simple precaution you should make a habit.

Seat belts haven been proven to keep people safe. Studies have shown that people suffer fewer injuries in a crash when wearing their seat belt. What’s more, it’s not an option for drivers. Laws have been passed requiring drivers and some passengers to buckle up.
