Compare Health Insurance Rates – Why women pay higher rates.

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Women, as a group, get far better deals on auto and life insurance. But once it comes to health insurance, a woman will attract higher rates than a male counterpart. Why is this so and what can a woman do to pay far less?

Consider the following.

It’s been proven that the female of every species tend to require more health care than their male counterparts. And it does make sense for the human race for the following reasons…

Menstrual period or cycle is a common and normal occurrence with every healthy female who is within the age bracket. Blood flows for some days, every month from having attained puberty to menopause (except when pregnant). If we were to calculate the amount of blood flow and the effects health and psychology, we would agree that women require more health care.

As if this is not enough, women also give birth to children. The period of gestation has its health needs but more than this, the after effect of the different pregnancies must have some kind of effect on their bodies resulting in a higher need for health care.

I hope the women folk are not annoyed with Insurance companies for their “insensitivity”? Lets understand that they are there to provide a service but much more to make profit for themselves and therefore look at every factor that may come to play in their policies and service provision.

The major factor they take into consideration is what percentage of any group of insureds would likely make claims, the amount claimed and the consequences to their business.

The idea is this. The higher the claims from a group of insureds, the higher the rates people in that group would have to pay so that the insurance company can still make profit.

So since women generally need to make more health insurance claims than men and therefore a higher amount, they are required by insures to pay more on their health insurance than their male counterparts.

Am I saying women can’t get lower rates? No!

To get lower rates, women would need to consider the following.

1. Quit alcohol, smoking and the use of tobacco in any form.

Dangerous games and sports should be avoided.

3. Quit jobs that expose you to hazards.

Lower your rates and increase your attraction by staying in shape.

5. Exercise regularly.

Engage in things that make you happy as happy people are less likely to fall ill.
