South Carolina Car Insurance: Have Your Life Circumstances Changed?

You may already have car insurance coverage, but how long has it been since you received an insurance policy rate quote to see if you are getting the best coverage available at a premium rate that could be better than what you are paying now?  In addition, your life circumstances can change and with that your need for different car insurance coverage can change as well.  You may have gone several years without an accident or a ticket, that will help decrease your car insurance premium.  Perhaps you have taken a defensive driving course, that will definitely affect your premium rates.  Since the last time you purchased your car insurance policy the limits on what is required may have changed as well.   Let’s take a look at these requirements for just a moment.

Under South Carolina Law drivers are required to carry limited liability insurance.  The standard set forth by the state are the minimum limits.  Each driver must have $25,000 Bodily Injury Liability with $50,000 per accident.  They must also have $25,000 Property Damage Liability coverage.  Most states do not require this, however South Carolina requires drivers to have Uninsured/Under-insured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage with the limits of $25,000 and a total of $50,000 per accident.  This coverage is very valuable to drivers in South Carolina.  There is a growing trend that we are seeing, drivers either are not getting enough coverage or they are going without coverage all together.  South Carolina is a Tort System state which means that in the event of an accident someone must be found at fault for causing the accident.  Once fault has been determined it is the responsibility of the at-fault driver and their insurance company to cover all damages and medical care resulting from the accident.

Since the last time you received a car insurance policy rate quote things may have changed regarding how your premiums are calculated.  Are you aware that your insurance agent can now take into consideration your presonal credit history when calculating your car insurance premium quote?  They beleive that there is a direct correlation between someones credit worthiness and the number of accident claims that are filed.  In order to get the best rate possible be sure you pay all of your credit obligations on time and be sure to supply your insurance agent with up to date and accurate personal information.  If it has been awhile since you shopped around for car insurance you may want to do it again, especially if your life circumstances have changed.
