Nevada Car Insurance
Nevada Car Insurance
All drivers must have Nevada car insurance to be legal when driving down any public road. The liability limits in Nevada are 15/30/10, of course, you can purchase more car insurance if needed, but you must have at least these amounts to drive legally. If you have to cancel your car insurance for any reason you must cancel your car registration as well, and turn in the license plates off your vehicle. Nevada has an insurance verification system that is computer operated. Once a month all licensed car insurance agents submit a report to the state insurance department, and the department of motor vehicles telling them of any new car insurance policies that have been written, as well as, the car insurance policies that have been terminated. Records that are found monthly where a vehicle has terminated their vehicle insurance and not purchased a new policy will be “flagged”. By flagging a record, this means these drivers are potentially uninsured. If this happens to you, you will first be notified by mail from the state, asking that you provide proof of current car insurance. You can also confirm that the car/vehicle, was stolen or taken out of the state, if this applies to you. If you do in fact have a car insurance policy, and you mail in the needed verification, the state will then notify your car insurance company. If you check out okay and are in fact abiding the law by having car insurance, you are cleared. If for some chance you are denied coverage, and do not have car insurance, you will be sent another letter explaining what the state found out along with a letter saying your drivers license has been suspended, and directions on how to correct your wrongdoings. If you ignore these letters you will be forced to have your license plates suspended, and looking to pay hefty fines and possible jail time.
If you have to reinstate your vehicle registration, you must show the minimum requirements have been met for your car insurance, and pay the fee to have your registration reinstated which is $250. If you can prove that your vehicle has not been used during the period of time you did not have car insurance your fee will be dropped down to $50.
