Missouri Car Insurance
Missouri Car Insurance
The state law of Missouri requires all drivers to carry car insurance. You must also have proof of car insurance when you register your vehicle annually. To show proof of car insurance you must be able to provide the actual vehicle insurance card issued by your car insurance company that states your name, address, description of your vehicle, the company’s name and address, and the policy number, along with the coverage effective dates. You can also show your car insurance binder, a self-insured ID card, or a financial responsibility card. The liability requirements for the state of Missouri are $25,000 per person for bodily injury, $50,000 for bodily injury per accident, and $10,000 for personal damage per accident. Drivers must also carry a non-insured motorist coverage that has limits of at least $25,000 for bodily injury per person, and $50,000 for bodily injury per accident. Of course, these are the least amounts of car insurance you must have to be following the law, you may at anytime add more coverages to your vehicle policy to cover yourself more. If you fail to carry car insurance or allow your car insurance to expire you may face the penalties of your drivers license becoming suspended for a year. To be able to get your license back you will have to pay hefty fines, and show proof of car insurance for the next three years.
Even the most careful driver can become involved in a car accident. You must be able to financially afford the damages that occurred, either with your car insurance or paying out of your own pocket. Missouri offers an SR-22 form that can follow your car insurance progress. If you, for some reason, need to file an SR-22 with the state, the state will know whether or not you have car insurance at all times.
