Arizona Car Insurance: Teen Drivers and the Law
You may ask yourself why are car insurance premiums more expensive for teen drivers that any other class of drivers? In the state of Arizona in 2008 there were approximately 3500 teenagers between the ages of 15 through 19 that were injured in an auto accident where a teen was at the wheel. 28 teenagers died in car accidents in 2008 where a teenager was driving. In the first year of a teens experience behind the wheel there is a greater chance of an accident due to inexperience. As the years progress and they garner experience and become seasoned drivers the chance for car accidents will decrease, thus your premiums will become less and less. But until that time insurance companies in the state of Arizona recommend that your purchase higher amounts of coverage than what the state requires for minimum legal limits. There are a few things that a teen can do to help lower your monthly premiums. first if they maintain at least a B average in school they will be eligible for a discount up to 15% as well as completing a stat approved safety course. In addition you can lower your premiums by avoiding purchasing an SUV or luxury car. If you opt for higher deductibles your monthly premium will be reduced.
In order to reduce the number of teens involved in car accidents the state of Arizona offers several different classes of drivers licenses. Teens must complete the requirements in each sector in order to advance to the next stage. They are required to attain a certain number of practice driving hours to maintaining a clean driving record.
