Slightly less than 50% of the people that were surveyed had their own cars damaged in a similar way previously. Of this, only 15% got details of the person who hit their car. When there are no visible signs of damage then two thirds of those involved will not leave their details. In these instances they convince themselves that the bang caused absolutely no damage at all.

In the battle of the sexes, women prove to be a more honest bunch. Women are 6% more likely to won up to crashing into a parked car than men. Hurray for the women, but it is still shocking that so many people would walk away after hitting someone’s car. Especially if it is your own car!

The worst culprits seem to be new drivers, under 18 years, as a quarter of them wouldn’t even admit they had caused damage to their friend’s car! The older, wiser drivers over 55 years are a more honest bunch – 94 percent of them would own up, probably because it has happened to them in the past.
